David is the son of my friend Ruby, who hosted me and my friends to stay with her in the summer of 2012.

I developed a special relationship with Carmen, pictured center, who I saw every day during my time in El Salvador. Carmen patiently listened to my broken Spanish, welcomed me into her home, and shared her story with me.

Me and Fefo, Carmen's son.

Lisbeth, Carmen's youngest child and only daughter.

The first night I went to El Salvador was spent watching a soccer game in the Suchitoto square. Soccer is a huge part of Salvadoran culture. Most of the town came out on the square to watch.

I spent the summer with my good friend Lavinia, a native Salvadoran who moved to the States when she was 12. Lavy is also committed to the Latin America region, planning to move back to El Salvador in the near future.

Though our 2012 summer trip had several other participants, I spent most of my time with Benjamin Reese and Lavinia, my peers and close friends.

El Salvador loves to celebrate! While there in 2012, I saw many festivals, the most elaborate one taking place during the month of August, in the small town of Suchitoto.

Friend and fellow teammate, Matthew Parker, with many of the Salvadoran boys who live in the rural community in which we work.

In 2011, the Latin America team built the first house to sit on our land. In 2012, we continued work on the house, and broke ground on two more homes. In Spring 2013, three families lived in the houses for 6 months. We are not far from establishing a permanent presence on the land.
